Great news. We’ll be open this winter! And with winter, comes comfort food – and we have the ultimate comfort food waiting for you – posh mash. Who doesn’t love mashed potato? But have you ever tried Joël Robuchon mashed potato? For those who aren’t familiar with the legendary French chef, who sadly passed away this summer, his mash is something else. In fact, it made him famous. We’re talking a 2:1 potato to butter ratio - silky, creamy and best savoured on a blustery day, with a glass of wine.
Well, here at The Little Gloster we’re paying homage to the Michelin-starred chef of the century with our own version of the exalted potato dish. We’ve toned down the butter (a little), and replaced the tricky-to-find waxy Ratte potato with some lovely Harlequins, grown for us by Will at Living Larder, which work a treat - especially when the lot is enjoyed with our killer new dish, corn-fed chicken supreme. Add to that a shaving of British black truffle - another exciting addition to the menu at just £3 a pop (little tip: truffles are great shaved over pretty much everything).
We’re pleased to report that we’ve had a great, Chase rosé-fuelled summer, not to mention a brilliant review from The Telegraph “…impeccable rooms, infectious enthusiasm of the young owners, and delicious, flavoursome fare...”. We’re delighted!
We’ve found the perfect balance of work/life/time with Uffa and have a happy & capable team, so it’s with light hearts that we move through to autumn and winter, in a very good place to usher in the chilly months ahead by providing both our regulars and visiting mainlanders with a welcoming, affordable hub.
After our two week November holiday (please see our winter opening hours below) Pasta Wednesdays and Thursdays (£16.95 for two courses, £20 for three courses) will become Pasta Thursdays, as we’ll be closed on Wednesdays.
We will also be introducing set lunch and dinner menus from Friday to Sunday (excluding Saturday nights) for the same price, in addition to the à la carte and daily specials.
All of which you can enjoy alongside our seasonal new cocktail list, including our delicious ‘Winter Orchard’ involving Chase naked apple vodka and Holly’s hedgerow-picked blackberries.
We all know what winter on the Island is like, especially for those of us who are off the beaten track. So this year we’ve decided to embrace it, work with it, and offer the best value that we can (look out for our dine and stay packages in our three beautiful rooms). In case you hadn’t noticed, the ex-Thompson’s head chef has been wowing the critics with his clever cooking at the capital’s hottest new restaurant, St Leonards in Shoreditch – you should just see what he does with humble hispi cabbage. And talking of vegetables, we’ve decided to celebrate the astonishing growth of veganism by hosting a special one off ‘Vegan Christmas Dinner’ event on Wednesday 12th December, featuring dishes from our friends & Island residents Emily Deary & Chris Brennan’s soon to be published second cookbook, The Vegan Build - Christmas. An evening for like-minded epicureans, looking forward to a proper xmas knees up with vegan fizz & all the trimmings! Book now.
